Fire-retardant wood is lumber and plywood that has been pressure-treated with specialized chemicals to reduce flame spread and smoke development. This treatment allows the material to achieve a Class A fire rating, helping meet strict building codes and improving overall fire safety.
Class A materials offer the highest level of fire resistance, with the lowest flame spread and smoke development. This rating is typically required in wildfire-prone areas.
Class B materials provide a moderate level of fire resistance. While they slow flame spread, they do not meet the same strict standards as Class A materials.
Class C materials offer basic fire resistance and allow for higher flame spread compared to Class A and B. These are generally used where fire protection requirements are minimal.
